This piece was created through UC Berkeley’s Department of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies, under the guidance of Timmia Hearn DeRoy, PhD, in her course Advanced Stage Directing as a Social Justice Practice.

At the end of her training program, Creating With Consent: Onstage Intimacies with Cal Summer Arts and Theatrical Intimacy Education, Kira Wefers and her fellow colleagues used techniques of intimacy choreography to create a final showcase piece, performed on July 21st, 2023.

Adapted from Lars Von Trier’s 2011 film Melancholia, this piece delves into the metaphorical world of disconnect in depression, and explores the big, overwhelming, and world-ending, along with the small and individual, as one and the same.

This piece was created through UC Berkeley’s Department of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies, under the guidance of Michael Socrates Moran. Featuring Riya Borde, Ella Darlington, and Leo Kearney, “Melancholia” was performed on December 3rd, 2022.

Kira Wefers was the founding rehearsal manager of BarePage, UC Berkeley’s premier student written, directed, and performed theater group. She wrote and directed the opening piece, “Soap Opera”, and directed Casey Lei’s “The Forgetting Man”, an abstract drama performed by Eric Miller and Avery Findsen on May 7th, 2022.
